Avic’s Westlands 47-storey towers to be complete by 2020

NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 20 – Global Trade Centre (GTC), East Africa’s first landmark city complex is set to be completed by 2020.

The 47-storey mixed-use building by Chinese state-owned aerospace and defence company, Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC International), is expected to cost up Sh40 billion in construction and other related costs once complete.

The GTC towers will host the headquarters of the Chinese company and other multinational firms.

AVIC International Managing Director, Wong Yong, disclosed that the project has contributed more than Ksh800million in taxes to the government.

It will also comprise a hotel, commercial and residential units as well as offices. AVIC has investments spanning sectors such as real estate, aviation and consumer goods.

“We met all the regulatory requirements necessary for a project of this magnitude and we are proud that we are playing our role in the development of this country’s economy,” said Yong.

The building is the tallest in Nairobi and is a major boost to Chinese investment in Kenya’s real estate sector.

GTC is targeting various Fortune Global 500 corporations who are keen in making Nairobi their African headquarters.

“Nairobi in the foreseeable future it will continue to act as the power engine of Kenya’s economic takeoff, setting the course for the country’s business renovations. GTC’s 184-m office tower, highest of its kind in entire East Africa, will bring the economic development of Kenya and the world into a brand new height and even higher standards. 3A Plus is GTC Office Tower’s new definition of business operation for the world of Fortune Global 500 firms,” Wong noted.

GTC Office Tower adopts a modernistic and avant-garde architectural style as its general design concept.

GTC will also serve as the seat of the latest masterpiece by JW Marriott, the world famous Luxury 5-star Hotel brand.

Operating at the height of 143 m, JW Marriott features a total of 317 guestrooms and 51 serviced suites ranging from 40 to 200 sq. m.

It also boasts an 800 sq. m pillarless grand ballroom with a 10-m floor-to-ceiling height as well as seven conference rooms fitted with state-of-the-art conference equipment.
