Cactus fever: City women scrambling for a slice to enhance beauty

Women can go to any extend and mix all kind of concoctions to wipe out pimples on their faces, black spots sand even stretchmarks to remain beautiful. For this reason Nairobi women now are scrambling for scoop of natural oil made from thorny cactus following unveiling of beauty product by a Nairobi businesswoman Esther Kamau. Kamau first tried the cactus on her face to erase some spots and after seeing the results she enrolled for short course learn more. “I enrolled for short course at cosmetic college to learn more about soaps and body creams and to confirm more about my findings”. According to Esther, fresh cactus plant contains abundant mucilage and cellulose that is good supply of vitamins and antioxidants. Thus it retains skin moisture and hence eradicating stretch marks, sun burns, acne, razor burn, dark circles around the eyes cracked feet among other skin problems. However, she gets the great products by mixing cactus with aloe vera and salicylic acid that is mostly used to remove dead skin right before applying the product twice a day on the face. Esther gets the cactus plant all the way from Nakuru County for free and sometimes buying kilo for Sh200. She explains, “For aloe Vera, they are easily available, from there I slice it into have, scoop the jelly stuff and blend them, when I first broke the news in January customers started flocking the shop immediately” Skin expert Francis Muga agrees that “cactus has medicinal substance that is good for human skin, it is also flaunted for its antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties”.
