Conflict is looming in the Nakuru County Assembly following a move to have all nominated MCAs removed from various committees.

According to reliable sources, the move is being spearheaded by Majority leader MCA Stanley Karanja and Biashara Ward MCA Peter Njoroge Wanyaguthie.

It has emerged that the House select committee which was inclusive of nominated MCAs was dismantled and a new one formed which excluded them.

According to the House procedures, the team forms all the committees in the County assembly.

However, the current House select committee has no nominated MCAs who now claim they are discriminated by their elected counterparts.

Furthermore, the current select committee went ahead to dismantle the other teams and constitute new ones which the nominated MCAs claim are not inclusive.

The Nominated MCAs have raised the matter with the Jubilee Party Headquarters.

Sources have it that Speaker Joel Maina Kairu and Majority leader received a letter warning them against such a move which they say will create a crisis in the Nakuru County Assembly.

This even as the report of the select committee concerning the dismantled committees is expected to be tabled before the House on Wednesday morning and debated on in the afternoon.

But Nakuru county assembly speaker Joel Kairo defended the nominated Members of county assemblies even as pressure mounts that such positions should be scraped off.

The Nakuru County Assembly speaker says the nominated MCAs are representing various marginalised groups in the house and therefore scraping off such positions will also create a constitutional crisis.

“Nominated MCAs are in those positions to represent various marginalised groups and therefore scraping them off will create a crisis in the country,” said Kairo.

He called on the elected leaders to focus on the government’s Big 4 agenda in ensuring development for the people.

Nakuru County Assembly has a total of 23 nominated MCAs majority of who are women and have been holding positions in various committees.
