A newly married young man early last week gave his wife a dog’s beating after he discovered she had gone round, spreading what he called “malicious rumours” that he was a virgin when they married and that his performance in bed is nothing to write home about. The incident which happened at a village in Murang’a County has made the man a laughing stock among his peers and nearly led to the collapse of the marriage. In a society where men who sleep with the highest number of women are praised and considered ‘great in bed’, the revelation occasioned untold humiliation and embarrassment to the man. Nosy youthful women The young man is the last born in a family of seven sons who are all married with the last four having married in a span of less than five years. When he took the woman home early this year, his parents received her warmly and warned her against certain nosy, youthful women married in the family, who usually met at the family well to gossip. “Their mother-in-law and the elderly women resent and frown on the caucus of four women as it thrives on backstabbing and gossiping about family members. They have nicknamed the meeting ‘bunge’ where issues touching on every family are discussed at length,” a source told this writer. Within no time, the young woman had been recruited into the gang of gossips as she couldn’t resist the juicy stories the women exchanged. Howls of laughter Oblivious that what she was saying would not only scandalise her husband but also reach him, during a discussion about their husbands’ performance in bed, she said her man had his first sexual encounter on the night they married. The other women are said to have erupted in howls of laughter taking joy in knowing they had something to hit back at a man who had been throwing his weight around, boasting about how macho he was. The news spread like bushfire and reached all and sundry, turning the woman’s husband into a subject of ridicule and mockery. When the man learned of the news from his friends, he was so hurt that he immediately went to his home where he gave his wife a serious thrashing, until neighbours held him back, fearing he would kill her. Other family members had to intervene to solve the matter, with the gossips getting a stern warning and told to tone down on their malicious rumour-mongering, lest they break the family apart.
