Gilgil MP Martha Wangare said Matiang'i will have to explain to legislators how the student died during a demonstration.Sh added the MP will also summon Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet following allegations that Evans Njoroge was shot by a police officer at close range. Njoroge was buried in an emotional ceremony on Thursday,March 8 at Longonot trading centre in Naivasha. He was shot on the head during a students' demonstration at Meru University over hiked school fees Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi and the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett could face parliament over the killing of Meru student's leader, Gilgil legislator Matha Wangari has said. Meru University College of Science and Technology Students' Association leader Evans Njoroge alias Evans Kidero died February, 27 on the spot after allegedly being shot by a police officer. He was at the forefront leading a protest for reforms at the institution including reduced fees. Witness alleged that police chased after him and after closing in on him, they shot him at close range using a pistol. A postmortem report revealed he was shot in the head with one bullet which entered his hea from behind and exited on the face. While addressing mourners at the burial, Wangari said parliament will summon Matiangi and Boinnet in due course. “We as parliament shall summon the CS and the IG for this heinous murder that has left a family in pain and the university management should also be investigated,” she was quoted by the Standard. On his part, Nakuru governor Lee Kinyanjui said he was ready to institute private prosecution against the officers involved. "It is painful for a parent to send a child to school in the hope of rising in the society only for the family to receive the body in a coffin and yet the child was not sick,” he told mourners. Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed on March 6 sent the university Vice Chancellor Josephat Magambo on terminal leave pending investigations.
