Beauty pageants are not a walk in the park, many starve just to look skinny enough to fit in designer dresses, others get surgery done just to have the perfect nose while others pretend to be what they are not just to be what other people want them to be. The journey to the Miss Universe finals for Miss Jamaica, Davina Bennett, was packed with a lot of controversy because of the massive afro she rocked. Many praised her for embracing her hair while others went ahead to mock her. After the Miss Universe finals, where Miss South Africa, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, won the coveted title while Miss Jamaica, finished in third place. This is the message she sent wrote to her followers on Instagram. I did not win but I got what I was seeking. In the hearts of many, I got to highlight Deaf awareness, I stand as the first afro queen to have made it thus far, I represented my little island and I received all the love one could possibly wish for.. THANK YOU!!! I came, I conquered and if you know me, then you know that’s just another story and you will be seeing a lot more from me💃😉👑To all the queens that represented, congrats and to our new Miss Universe @demileighnp go conquer the world you are indeed a gem!😍😙 @thedavinabennettfoundation it’s time to lift you up!P.S. Back on Jamaican soil early and bright a mawning!!!💃💃💃💃♥💛💚 This goes to show that even when we do not emerge winners, the lessons learned on the journey are very important as well. We should not be sore but congratulate our competition and make the most of it all.
