The Salgaa stretch of the Nakuru – Eldoret Highway was witnessed horrific scenes with the most recent being an early morning crash that claimed 36 lives. The gruesome accident marked the turning point of Mr Micah Mbuthia, a police officer who was part of the rescue operations team. The officer, who was involved in the retrieval of bodies trapped in the wreckage of the Nairobi bound bus, made a decision to get saved after seeing so many dead bodies. Speaking to a local daily having seen the dead bodies, Micah confessed that seeing the dead bodies made him recount his ways and he decided to receive salvation having realized how delicate life was. “From the horrible scenes that I saw with my naked eyes I have realized that life is a very delicate thing which can be lost any time, in my opinion the best thing one can do is to turn back to his creator and avoid evil ways because death is not far away from us though we aren’t sure when it will strike,” Micah said. The terrified officer narrated how his body shook as he came across broken body parts trapped inside the bus. In his account, having dealt with other accidents involving loss of lives, he recounted that this was the worst scenario in his line of duty. “Imagine seeing so many lifeless bodies before you which you are sure were alive just few minutes ago, that’s when I looked at myself and realized I am nothing better,” he added. Officer Micah together with his colleagues arrived at the scene almost immediately to clear the road, however he says he almost lost the strength to continue with the retrieval as the situation was heart-breaking.
