A new mom from Kansas City, Missouri named Nayzia Thomas is making headlines for an inspiring photo she shared on Twitter back on December 11. In the shot, Thomas is in a hospital bed working on a laptop. She tweeted alongside the photo: "My mom took this pic, and it's the perfect explanation of my life. Yes, I'm about to have a baby, but finals [season] ain't over yet." PopSugar reports that Thomas -- a sophomore studying psychology at Johnson County Community College in Kansas City, Missouri -- was determined to graduate at the top of her college class. She had been going to class up until the time she was 39 weeks pregnant, and right before welcoming her L.O. on December 12, she sent in her last exam on dissociative identity disorder. "[The exam] wasn't due until the end of the week . . . but my goal was to try to have everything done before [having the baby]," she told Yahoo Lifestyle. "[I thought] 'before all this gets crazy let me hurry up and finish this final.' ... School is so important to me. I didn't want [the pregnancy] to be in the way. That's what people expect. You're a teen mom, you're a young mother. That's why my mom took that picture. It shows [I] follow through." That's more than apparent, given that Thomas was going to class and working three jobs when she found out she was pregnant over the summer. The inspiring new mom shared on social media that the birth was a bit stressful, as she had some complications that lead to requiring a blood transfusion. In spite of all the challenges, she was happy to report that she finished the semester with a 3.5 GPA. Now, Thomas plans to take a month off to care for her son Anthony. She'll then get back to class next semester, working with her boyfriend to juggle child care duties. “My mom was a single mom,” she told Yahoo. “We’re all three in school and getting our degrees.” Here's wishing this badass mom nothing but continued health, happiness, and luck in her next exciting, surely successful chapter!
