As a former member of the navy, her brother who was living in the US took his own life after suffering a long period of post-traumatic depression. Still heartbroken from what could have been and what isn’t, Jane shared a video to celebrate her brother’s life that was short lived. She captioned, “A year ago today we laid you to rest Stephen. Still full of sadness that you’re not here and still an irreplaceable void in my heart. Taking a moment of silence to remember You Brother Dearest. Death cruelly robbed us of you but gone is not forgotten. I Love you, I Miss you. Continue Resting In Peace And Watching Over Us.” A year ago today we laid you to rest Stephen. Still full of sadness that you’re not here and still an irreplaceable void in my heart. Taking a moment of silence to Rememeber You Brother Dearest. Death cruely robbed us of you but gone is not forgotten. I Love you, I Miss you. Continue Resting In Peace And Watching Over Us. A post shared by Jane Mukami (@fitkenyangirl) on Mar 3, 2018 at 9:25am PST   Mukami is now a voice for those struggling with suicidal thoughts. Just recently, she gave candid advice on suicide prevention. Mukami says that balancing mental, spiritual and physical health is very important in life. “… today is Thursday and I am throwing back to this picture of my brother and I took in Atlanta, Summer 2014 R.I.P brother dearest. Mental and spiritual health is integral to everything in our lives, including physical health and fitness. Unfortunately, my brother was not in a mentally good space and chose to take his life…” via GIPHY Jane also urges her fans to pay attention to loved ones who are suffering from depression. She warns them to not let silence take a life that could easily be saved. Her words, “Let’s pay attention to our loved ones, those who survive in silence and isolation. Let’s let them know we love them, and try to get them to open up. If that doesn’t work, don’t give up on them and don’t be embarrassed to solicit help from friends, doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, anyone that can connect with them, get them to open up + pull them out of their dark hole of despair. I miss my brother terribly and my hope is that you do not lose someone because of something you could have prevented. Let’s go the extra mile in love, grace, and compassion for each other #brotherskeeper” via GIPHY Suicide can be prevented if only we didn’t keep it a secret to hide our loved ones from ‘shame’. There’s nothing embarrassing about being overwhelmed and while this can easily be solved, it can also become dangerous if not taken as a serious matter. According to the Ministry Of Health, over 800,000 people commit suicide every year in the world and about 25 times as many attempt to kill themselves. In Kenya, suicide is the second ...
