A little boy named Logan James Lynch Perez will forever be known as the first U.S.-born baby of 2018! The 6-lb., 15-oz. was welcomed by his parents Jennica and Davante just two seconds after midnight on Guam, a U.S. island territory in the Western Pacific, according to People.  “It was painful, but it was worth it,” Jerrica Lynch told the Pacific Daily News. “He’s a handsome, healthy baby. It’s exciting, we’re blessed. We’re thankful for everything.” The proud mom went onto explain that she gave him the middle name James was afte her grandfather who died about 15 years ago. Little Logan was delivered by Thomas Shieh, MD who said the labor was "all natural, not induced." The hospital where Jerrica delivered, Guam Memorial Hospital, has restrictions against labor induction when naming "first baby born of the year," according to Dr. Shieh.  According to People, the family has received various gifts in the wake of their baby's headline-making birth. Among the most notable: a gift basket with goodies worth $200 from the family of Kylie Ray Tesalona, 2017’s first New Year’s baby. The Tesalonas family reportedly wanted to pass along the good fortune they had received last year. The first baby to be born in the contiguous United States was born 15 hours and one minute after Logan in New York City. The baby girl named Ariana, born to mom Tania Shirin and dad Imran Nazir, arrived at 12:01 a.m. weighing 4-lbs., 11 oz. “They’re very happy to have a little baby girl and she’s adorable, they’re just thrilled to be parents,” Andrew Rubin, MD, of Flushing Hospital in Queens, told the New York Post.  Nazir added, “It was a big celebration. Not only the doctors and nurses shouting but all the staff, they came, we clapped. We all celebrated … we felt so amazed. We felt special." So awesome! And only a minute before Ariana was born -- precisely when the clock struck 12 -- a 7-lb., 11-oz. baby girl arrived at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, Canada, according to the Toronto Star. Mom Hlengiwe Khoza reportedly named her daughter Shiloh. Toronto is also home to twins born via C-section at the stroke of midnight at Humber River Hospital. Brother Philip was born just seven seconds before his twin sister Victoria.  Congratulations to all the proud new parents!
