Giroud places ‘responsibility’ for Wilshere exit on Emery

Olivier Giroud has expressed his regret that Jack Wilshere is to leave Arsenal this summer.

Wilshere will exit Arsenal when his contract expires at the end of June, having held frank discussions with new manager Unai Emery over the future.

Emery made it clear to the midfielder that he was not a key fixture in his plans, and Wilshere took the decision to walk instead of fighting for his place.

The England international now has the pick of clubs to choose from – including an interesting proposition at Everton – but Giroud is unhappy that the opportunity did not present itself at the Emirates Stadium.

“It’s big news and I’m very sad to hear it, because he’s a good friend,” Giroud said.

“Jack is a good lad, a very good player, very talented and it is a shame he has had so many injuries. But he came back well last season and it was good to see him on the pitch, enjoying his game and being strong.

“It’s a big loss and I hope he will bounce back as soon as possible at a good club.

“I wish him the very best because I appreciate him. I hope for him and his family he will bounce back.

“The new manager makes the decision and he has the responsibility for the team and the player.”
