Happy International Women's Day: Seven false stereotypes about women

It is 2018 and astonishingly, women are still facing biases and battling entrenched stereotypes that should have been died in the last century. Why don’t we look at some of the stereotypes that should be dead and buried as we celebrate the International Women’s Day. Shall we? Hey let us drop this one cold turkey. Women are not nagging, they know what they want and keep it until they achieve it. Simple. What nonsense. Women do not spend all those hours behind the mirror to apply kilometres of makeup form men. Nope, they do it to look good and take care of their own beauty. Men are secondary. Not every single woman goes aww when they look at a baby or go mushy when they think of marriage. In fact, you will be surprised at the number of those not interested in being a wife or mother. This is one that needs to be buried deep in the amazon and compacted with Mt Everest on top of it. This is what has precipitated abuse, biases and discrimination. What a man can do…need to say more? This one is tired, rusty and rotten to the core. Needs no explanation. Men should drop the habit of saying they are looking for women who are good cooks as partners. It is 2018, there are fast food restaurants, online deliveries and better yet why shouldn’t the man get in the kitchen and let the woman flip the channels on the remote? Or is it just me... There is a notion out there that women belong to ‘softer’ courses and ‘hard-core’ subjects and careers like engineering belong to men. Perhaps better explained by enrolment at our Kenyan universities. Here is the thing, it smells. Women are brainy like everybody else, teach them and give them the tools to deliver on anything and they will deliver.

Why don’t we look at some of the stereotypes that should be dead and buried as we celebrate the International Women’s Day. Shall we? Hey let us drop this one cold turkey. Women are not nagging, they know what they want and keep it until they achieve it. Simple. What nonsense. Women do not spend all those hours behind the mirror to apply kilometres of makeup form men.
