National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich denied media reports that he had said the government was broke because it had missed its tax targets. Rotich said the government can never be broke and that it is the safest entity to do business with. The CS on Wednesday, March 7 asked Parliament to slash budgetary allocation to counties as the government did not have enough cash. He aid the government was broke because it had not collected enough revenue as targeted due to prolonged electioneering period in 2017 and drought The government has denied it is broke following an earlier shocking revelation by national Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich. While he met Senators on Wednesday, March 7, Rotich indicated that the Government was struggling to fiund its activities as it had no money after it due to prolonged electioneering period and a long spell of drought in 2017. However, a day latefr after being bashed by Kenyans for the damning revelation, Rotich denied that he had said the government had run out of cash. He accused the media of peddling fake news insisting the government had enough money to run its activities. He spoke when he hosted over 2000 young women to discuss Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO) as part of the International Women’s Day celebrations at Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on Thursday, March 8. But his sentiments contrast with the move taken by Majority Leader Aden Duale who want Kenyans to pay more for electricity and fuel in a bid to raise more funds for the governmnet. On Wednesday, March 7, that would see cost of fuel and electricity soar up by about 40 per cent as reported earlier by TUKO.co.ke. Rotich had earlier told the Senate Finace Committee that the government was planning to cut County Government allocations by close to KSh 18 billion.
